This post is a commentary regarding this post: We All Hit Play - http://deadmau5.tumblr.com/post/25690507284/we-all-hit-play
I also commented on the Dj Joyride facebook page.(http://facebook.com/djjoyride.us)
It made me feel like it is best to struggle, innovate, adjust, try new things than be at the top of the industry. Sure, fame and money come, but Mau5 is earning a living and sacrificing his pleasure on stage for money. However, I bet he does have fun in the studio.
On the other side of the coin, Deadmau5 is also saying that the reason anyone does shows is for the fans, and that is somewhat true. But I think back to the roots of hip hop. The DJ, the BBoy, and the MC. All three have a great time because the others are there. That is what I want to build and be a part of. I want to Dj for promoters that enjoy promoting alongside dj's and MCs that are also having a blast. I want to work with nerdy lighting / sound guys that are loving and innovating and improving. I want to see fans and meet the greatest new friends I can ask for. If my events need to be small because it takes me some time to network and find the right people, so be it. It is worth the time and investment. EDM is a great experiment and it is how I have met my closest friends as well as hundreds of other excellent people, including you. :)

Thank you to the High Plains Reader, to KNDS Radio and each of you who have spent time on my dancefloor. Thank YOU to those who voted on the Internet, payed a cover charge an event I played for, or rolled down your windows and drove a little slower during my radio program. Thank you for participating in the mighty Red River Underground. If you have ever booked me at a show, private party, or we rocked your house party-- please keep working. People needs dance. People need the unity that your events make possible.

We also spoke with Nigel about the future of underground dance in North America. We can all agree that it is changing. We discussed the emerging "Burning Man" spin-off events across the country (tribe.net) and adult costume events like at kostumekult.com as possible alternatives to our dwindling musical habitat. Take a look... this is cool stuff.

Reminder: DJ Hero Video Game Drops on Tuesday!
What surprises me is the scarcity of media coverage in the Fargo-Moorhead area about the next generation of rhythm-based gameplay. With the unbelievable skills developed by teens and tweens playing bass, drums, and guitar (albeit in a simplified form) is amazing. DJ Hero has the potential to create a legion of new DJs. DJ Joyride had the honor of releasing the preview of the DJ Hero video have in Minot back in early August.
"Watching these kids play the other successful Activision titles like Rock Band will blow your mind," said Joyride. "These gamers skip right past MEDIUM, and HARD modes to destroy their competition on EXPERT MODE. The amount of dexterity and coordination needed to play even a familiar song in EXPERT MODE is very impressive." The demo version of DJ Hero was very limited, with 3 "Mixes" to play and skill level max'ing out at HARD. "I'm still very excited for the game's full release in October."
