Mr. Bill hit by landslide, drops beats on crowd

| More

A couple of weekends ago, I joined my friend from NiirDanger Productions (http://niirdanger.wix.com/) on a road trip from PDX to Seattle (Tacoma, actually) where she was to perform a belly dance for Mr. Bill. Mr. Bill is an Australian producer (http://soundcloud.com/mrbillstunes/) who was just wrapping his US Tour. He had sold out a TC Dubstep show in Minneapolis just weeks earlier, which caused some Midwest Pride to bubble up while I was talking with him.

Mr.Bill dropped some great music, I danced the entire time... but I'm posting today to share this story of his drive from Cali to Seattle. As it turns out, he was hit by a landslide --- literally. A massive tree smashed into his rental car.

After Bill's set I went to greet him at his vehicle before he tore off to his hotel. He was traveling with the cutest girl who begins to tell the story of the landslide...

This is the exciting tale of their rental car voyage:

The Barbecue Is Coming Back To Fargo

| More

You may have read on DJJoyride.com blog that Pete aka The Grillmaster and Icedbreaks Entertainment are teaming up again in August for another Summertime Barbecue in Oak Grove Park.

In order to guarantee the event runs smoothly, we are running a small fundraising effort to pay for the permits and materials to make the food, music, and fun happen. You can see the progress toward our goal in the right side column.

Regarding the blog post by Deadmau5

| More

This post is a commentary regarding this post: We All Hit Play - http://deadmau5.tumblr.com/post/25690507284/we-all-hit-play
I also commented on the Dj Joyride facebook page.(http://facebook.com/djjoyride.us)

It made me feel like it is best to struggle, innovate, adjust, try new things than be at the top of the industry. Sure, fame and money come, but Mau5 is earning a living and sacrificing his pleasure on stage for money. However, I bet he does have fun in the studio.

On the other side of the coin, Deadmau5 is also saying that the reason anyone does shows is for the fans, and that is somewhat true. But I think back to the roots of hip hop. The DJ, the BBoy, and the MC. All three have a great time because the others are there. That is what I want to build and be a part of. I want to Dj for promoters that enjoy promoting alongside dj's and MCs that are also having a blast. I want to work with nerdy lighting / sound guys that are loving and innovating and improving. I want to see fans and meet the greatest new friends I can ask for. If my events need to be small because it takes me some time to network and find the right people, so be it. It is worth the time and investment. EDM is a great experiment and it is how I have met my closest friends as well as hundreds of other excellent people, including you. :)

2011 HPR BEST BETS THANK YOU

| More

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Fargo, ND

Earlier tonight, DJ Joyride (booking: 612-234-1143) was crowned Fargo-Moorhead Best DJ 2011 by the High Plains Reader (hpr1.com). This is the Third consecutive year that he received recognition by the people of Fargo (2009 best radio DJ - 2010 best performance DJ - 2011 Best DJ). Here are some words from Nick, who was unable to attend the big HPR Best Bets Celebration:

Thank you to the High Plains Reader, to KNDS Radio and each of you who have spent time on my dancefloor. Thank YOU to those who voted on the Internet, payed a cover charge an event I played for, or rolled down your windows and drove a little slower during my radio program. Thank you for participating in the mighty Red River Underground. If you have ever booked me at a show, private party, or we rocked your house party-- please keep working. People needs dance. People need the unity that your events make possible.

The Icedbreaks Crew is proud to represent 2 of the 4 nominees in this category for 2011, Joyride and Star IV. Both DJs are available for special events individually or as a tag team. Interviews with Joyride are available via telephone or in person the week of July 4th.

Oregon Museum of Science and Industry Design Zone by Spun Academy

| More

Years ago Brandon, a good friend of the Icedbreaks Crew, did a presentation of Spun Academy's technological capabilities by demonstrating a tangible interface synthesizer. His goal was to get access to the Museum's Rocket Scientists to take things to the next level, but found himself on the other side of the table. Instead of Brandon asking the questions, these curators had so many that Brandon couldn't get to his.

He went over how the Spun Academy uses DJing, hip hop, electonica, etc. to get kids motivated to learn math, geometry, physics, and more. The curators immediately requested that Brandon and the Academy work with them to build exhibits to be featured at the museum. After countless emails, a visit to Spun Academy by the Institute design team, and a private conference...Design Zone was born. The project took years to complete and is now featured at OMSI's primary exhibit studio until May 30th, 2011.

If you live in Oregon, or South Washington, get the whole family and group of friends together to enjoy this music inspired Design Zone!!!
"Visitors explore relationships between length and pitch in musical instruments, ratios and rhythms, and visual representations of sound in On Stage!, Dance Party, and the DJ Recording Studio. Area highlights include Laser Light DJ where visitors discover how laser light show technicians create mesmerizing patterns, and Turntables, where they can practice their DJ skills by trying to seamlessly match beats per minute to the tempo of a new song." - DESIGN ZONE  WEBSITE

New Years' Party! (a big maybe)

| More

Hey all. The Art de Trois dance has been postponed until tomorrow night... but we're working hard to get a BYOB, FREE event going on tonight at the same space. Stay tuned here or wait for a text message or call one of the DJs for details.

We've heard that liquor stores will be closing early, so take the time now to get your fix on lock.

I hope to see you TONIGHT to ring in the REAL NEW YEAR....
There is a REAL chance we'll be snowed in tomorrow, so snacks and non-alcoholic beverages might also be a good idea.

----------------
Hello and HAPPY NEW YEARS EVE everyone! This just is from the Art de Trois team:

Due to this particularly strong blizzard in Fargo, the Art de Trois dinner, art auction, and dance are officially postponed. We will host all 3 events tomorrow night. We do hope that you will stay warm and safe tonight. We have even heard that the Hospital (walk'ins, etc) are closed.

Stay safe and warm... and we'll pretend this never happened --- TOMORROW NIGHT.

Best,
The Art de TEAM!

A Touch of Class (event) Nov. 20th

| More

Next Saturday, the crew and I are exploring a new idea for nightlife in the Fargo-Moorhead area. Before the winter arrives, we invite you and your most interesting friends to meet us and our most interesting friends. We're building a Touch of Class to be a social night, complete with billiards, darts and plenty of seating area. Your entertainment for the night includes 2 comedians, and a chance to get intimate with DJ Ajent Orange from Minneapolis.

RSVP on the [ FACEBOOK EVENT PAGE ]

Ajent Orange is resident DJ at a number of Minneapolis hotspots including Twilight, and Camp. AJ Has agreed to let us have it, engaging us throughout the night with a very extended 3+ hour set. :) Want a sample of AJs style? AjentOrange.com has a nice selection here.

Nick Wieme and T.L. Halverson will bring the funny next Saturday. Laughter is contagious and we'll all catch it together when two Fargo comics take the stage just before 11pm.  Whether you've had a crummy week or one of your best, this type of commotion will be a welcome change to Fargo's typical night-on-the-town. We've been following Nick and Torrey's stand-up work for months and we're sure you'll like it.

Please invite your most interesting friends to join us on Saturday night...  Arrive looking fly before 10pm and our photographer will give you a keepsake photograph to remember the night.

Our first U-Stream session at Icedbreaks Entertainment...

| More

I traded video quality for audio quality... and that was a pretty poor decision. I think I could've kept both.

Vincent Farvard and I met during Culture Shock and Secret Stereo Pt.4 last weekend in Grand Forks, ND. He is a very versatile DJ from France, also a student at NDSU. He stopped by our studio before his last final. Tuesday he is headed to France for the summer. Look for Vincent and I to do some shows in the fall of 2010.
